NEW DELHI: General Motors' multi-purpose vehicle Chevrolet Enjoy has miserably failed Global NCAP tests, unable to secure even a single safety star in a recent test. Ford's Figo Aspire though fared better and came out with three stars in the same tests. Global NCAP is considered - and recognised - internationally for its car rating system. According to the UK-based Global NCAP, the Enjoy, which is sold without airbags in its basic version, "recorded a disappointing zero stars" for adult occupant protection in first set of tests conducted by the consumer car safety body in 2017. Due to the lack of airbags and poor structural performance in the model, the driver injuries would have been unacceptably high, it said after the crash test. Global NCAP added that the protection offered in Chevrolet Enjoy to the driver's head and chest was poor." ... we are extremely concerned about the poor result of the Chevrolet Enjoy. There is nothing to enjoy about a zero star safety score and GM should be embarrassed that they are selling cars with such inadequate levels of occupant protection to Indian consumers," Global NCAP Secretary General David Ward said. The five-door minivan managed to score two stars for rear seat child occupant protection.
On the other hand, Ford's compact sedan Figo Aspire, which comes with double airbags as standard, scored three stars for adult occupant protection and two stars for child protection. The sedan comes with dual front airbags as standard, and with six airbags in the top trim.
